Omega Constellation Pie Pan ref. 14900 with Dog-Leg Lugs 1962

This Omega Constellation ref. 14900, produced in approximately 1962, is an iconic example of 1960s design from Omega, offered in honest & original vintage condition.

The 14900 reference is a collection of firsts for Omega: it is the first Constellation model bearing the now-iconic dog-leg lugs, and it is thought to be the first Omega design produced by Gerald Genta. The design is defined by its sharp, angular edges and facets, present in both the pie-pan dial and dog-leg lugs. This particular example is a great, honest vintage piece: while it bears plenty of signs of its age, it remains unpolished and retains all the sharp edges that make this model an icon.

The watch’s appeal is further enhanced by its onyx-inset markers and hands, which add a lovely pop of contrast to the champagne-toned dial. The dial also features the crosshair motif: a staple of 1950s watch design that would disappear from subsequent Constellation references. This dial configuration is all the more attractive to my eye with no date window to disrupt its symmetry.

The watch is powered by the chronometer certified cal. 552 automatic movement, which is running well and keeping time accurately at time of testing.

Dial:
  • Original Pie-Pan dial with champagne sunburst finish and crosshair design
  • Baton indices indices with onyx inserts and matching hands
  • Applied steel “Omega” name & logo and Constellation star logo
  • Two-line dial variant (missing the “Officially Certified” text) is correct and consistent with an early 19 million serial number
  • There is light patina throughout the dial, with some spots and peeled lacquer visible around the outer edges of the pie-pan facets
  • Original acrylic crystal with well defined Omega logo stamp to centre
Case:
  • Stainless steel case featuring the iconic Dog-Leg lugs
  • Case is in very sharp, likely unpolished condition with dog-leg lugs retaining their characteristic edges
  • This is an honest vintage example with small scratches present to the case and lugs
  •  The Omega-signed crown is a later service replacement
  • The screw fit caseback retains a sharp, steel Geneva Observatory medallion
  • The 14900 was the first Constellation reference offered with an integrated steel Observatory medallion rather then the inset gold medallion of previous references
  • Scratches present from past attempts to open the caseback
  • 34 mm diameter (without crown) | 43 mm lug-to-lug | 18 mm lug width | 11 mm thick
Movement:
  • Omega Caliber 551 automatic movement (no date)
  • 24 jewels, 19,800 bph, 50 hour power reserve
  • COSC Chronometer Certified
  • 19 million serial number dates the movement to 1962
  • Professionally inspected October 2026 and keeping time accurately
Strap & Buckle:
  • New,  genuine Epsom leather, taupe strap with generic stainless steel buckle

~ The watch is pictured on a 7.5 in (19 cm) wrist ~
